US Highway 16 is a primary corridor connecting Rapid City to the Black Hills region. It serves a growing population of commercial and residential traffic, as well as seasonal tourist traffic. The limits of the US 16 & Catron Blvd Intersection Study Area extend from Promise Road to the north, Sammis Trail to the south, Sheridan Lake Road to the west and Fifth Street to the east. The purpose of the study is to analyze different intersection options at US 16 and Catron Blvd in terms of operational efficiency, constructability, safety, and public input. The study will determine a preferred alternative in order to ensure the Catron Blvd and US 16 corridors meet expected growth and to safely handle traffic that future growth will generate.
A public meeting to solicit input from interested parties was held November 12 at the Fire Station located at 1930 Promise Road, Rapid City, SD 57702.
